Examples:

puer domum cucurrit ut patrem suum videret
= the boy ran home in order to see his father

miles ex castris fugit ne ab hostibus caperetur
= the soldier fled from the camp in order not to be caught by the enemy


Indirect Commands

ut + subj or ne + subj (negative)

Examples:

dominus ancillam imperavit ut ad tabernam iret
= the master ordered the slave-girl to go to the shop

senex filios suos monuit ne bellum gererent
= the old man warned his sons not to wage war


Verbs of Fearing

ne + subj

Examples:

imperator timebat ne urbs oppugnaretur
= the emperor was scared that the city would be attacked

milites timebant ne ab hostibus interficerentur
= the soldiers were scared that they would be killed by the enemy


Result Clauses

ut + subj

Examples:

Romani tam celeres erant ut hostes facile opprimerentur
= the Romans were so quick that the enemy was easily overwhelmed

rex risit tantum ut caderet
= the king laughed so much that he fell
